The team for the Treatment Centre for Spinal Cord Injuries is made up of dedicated doctors (surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons and neurosurgeons), physio- and occupational-therapists, speech therapists, social workers, psycho-therapists, sports therapists and nurses, all of whom have been specially trained to treat and look after paraplegics. The centre has 60 beds on 3 wards (E1, E2, E3), 4 beds for the ventilator-dependant, and in Station 3, an internet-café has been set up.

Comprehensive Care of Paraplegic Patients

The Centre for Spinal Cord Injuries treats patients with paraplegia brought on by a variety of causes, be they accidents, hereditary malformations or tumors and infections in the spinal column. Depending on the cause of the spinal cord impairment, the Centre has all the cutting-edge procedures for spinal cord surgery at its disposal, alleviating and stabilizing neuronal structures.

Lifelong Support for Patients and Loved-Ones

Our regular seminars constitute an important part of the support in the treatment centre. All our therapists offer patients and their loved-ones the information and support they need to cope with their new situation, preventing or minimizing the physical, emotional and social complications that their illness or injury might entail. To improve their participation in social life and at work, we create a customized rehabilitation plan, without overlooking the equally important and much needed office and home visits. To improve mobility, we also work with a driving school where patients can learn the skills necessary for driving. In order to detect early on complications due to paralysis, our ambulatory services are always ready to respond to patients’ needs, fulfilling our promise of “lifelong support.”
