Emergency Services

The Trauma Surgery Clinic is responsible for treating seriously injured patients in the pre-clinical and clinical phase. With this in mind, the emergency services for the Trauma Surgery and Orthopedics Clinic has special significance. With its trauma room for primary care and immediate treatment of seriously injured patients, the rescue centre constitutes the core of the hospital.

Operating Rooms and Wards

The medical team of the Trauma Surgery and Orthopedics Clinic performs over 3800 acute and reconstructive surgical procedures per year. Bone fractures are operated on using the most modern implants (marrow nail, lamina, cannulated screws, external fixtures) with the least invasive techniques possible.

Operations of the Future

In the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin, two “i-Suite” operating rooms with the highest extension stage were opened. The state-of-the-art equipment affords the ukb not only the most cutting-edge technology, but also many ergonomic and economic advantages. All the technical machines have been built into the ceiling of the trauma room. The emergency room has been designed in such a way as to allow for the presence of every necessary piece of equipment without taking away from the room necessary for complex procedures. Part of the new technology that has been brought directly into procedure rooms includes cutting-edge mobile radiology technology by Philips, which allows X-Rays of the injured bones to be taken in the operating room from all angles, thus giving medical staff an immediate 3D view of the fractures. This helps doctors make quick, necessary decisions on how to proceed in healing their patients.

Computer Assisted Surgery

Computer assisted surgery enables surgeons to perform operations using any number of applications in trauma surgery with more precision, and subjecting both patient and doctor to significantly less radiation.

Further Treatment

The Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department continues to treat accident survivors far beyond the initial admission to hospital. Our goal is to revive functions that have been lost in accidents. We have a modern rehabilitation centre where patients not only go through the general rehabilitation procedures, but are also given exercises that simulate real-life conditions that they will face at their jobs. The department is authorized to provide outpatient physical therapy in the extended area of statutory accident insurance.
