BG Trauma Clinic Murnau

The home of minimally invasive spinal surgery

The BG Trauma Clinic Murnau is a nationwide trauma centre which provides maximum care. It focuses on the treatment of all trauma injuries, especially severe and the severest forms of injury, i.e. the care of spinal injuries and paraplegics, burns injuries and patients with multiple injuries, so-called polytraumas, many of these with complicated craniocerebral injuries. The clinic satisfies the BG principle of holistic care. Thus, within the framework of interdisciplinary cooperation between the clinic's specialised departments, its patient care starts with primary care at the accident site and finishes with successful social and vocational reintegration. It faces this challenge with modern facilities, medical equipment and major equipment, a comprehensive range of proven and innovative treatment strategies as well as highly skilled and motivated employees.

Innovations

BGU Murnau is a world leader in minimally invasive surgical procedures on the spine with endoscopic control; these procedures have been developed in-house. The first time surgery of this nature was performed anywhere in the world was in 1996. Since then, the BGU has conducted more than 1,000 endoscopic procedures on the spine in Murnau. Instruments and implants especially developed in the trauma clinic for this surgical method make it increasingly possible to successfully treat and stabilise severe and the severest injuries to the spine in this manner. Meanwhile, this procedure has become a standard for spinal surgery because the benefits of the minimally invasive technique for the patient are obvious.

Partnerships

A promising step towards that guaranteeing patient care remains both at a high level and economically efficient in the future is the cooperation between individual efficient health care service providers. For this reason, on the basis of a cooperation agreement, BGU Murnau and the Paracelsus Medical University of Salzburg have decided to work closely together in teaching and research and to operate a biomechanics research laboratory at BG Clinic Murnau. The objective of the Murnau Biomechanics Laboratory is to conduct basic research and practical development work to find new and improved ways to treat injuries and musculoskeletal disorders and to implement these quickly and effectively in clinical practice. In order to strengthen the joint market position and ensure continued economically efficient but high-quality health care, BG Clinic Murnau and the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Clinic also cooperate with one another in the clinical field.
