Clinic for Internal Medicine

The Clinic for Internal Medicine is responsible for diagnosing and treating all internal diseases, focusing on cardiovascular and lung diseases. Immediate, optimal interventional care is give to patients suffering from diseases such as cardiogenic shock, cardio-circulatory arrest and heart attacks; two heart-lung machines and an intra-aortic balloon pump ensure the success of treatment. In our functional diagnostics department, state-of-the-art non-invasive equipment allows us to measure heart and lung functions, and to examine the blood vessels.  Two cardiac catheterization laboratories are always available in the treatment of acute heart attacks, coronary disease, heart defects and heart failure. In addition, the Clinic for Internal Medicine has well-equipped functional  department, a gastroenterology department and an electro-physiological measurement system with the possibility of ablation therapy.

Invasive Cardiology

The Clinic for Internal Medicine covers the whole spectrum of invasive-interventional cardiology. About 15% of heart attacks in the Berlin area are treated in our clinic. Our clinic has access to a heart-lung machine for high-risk surgeries. Our doctors are up-to-date on all the new scientific studies and follow all the modern advances in interventional therapy for cardiac diseases, especially of the aortic and mitral valves, coronary heart disease, and the septum.

Electrophysiology / Rhythmology

Rhythmology provides the whole spectrum of diagnostics and therapy for cardiac arrythmias. We not only concentrate on invasive electrophysiological diagnostics, but also on ablation therapy for tachycardia as well as atrial fibrillation and flutter. Furthermore, treatment using an automatic internal cardioverter / defibrillator (AICD) systems, pacemakers and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) plays an important role in our clinic. Patients are followed up in our ambulatory services.

Special Ambulatory Services and Functional Diagnostics Department

Patients with difficult and rare diseases are treated in our Special Ambulatory Services department. Patients suffering from pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, valve disease, and cardiac septum defects are often followed here for years. The functional diagnostics department with non-invasive cardiological (including 3D echocardiography and cardiopulmonary exercise testing) and endoscopic procedures (including bronchoscopy and ERCP) are available to patients and to those covered by the German public accident insurance.
